An investor lost 80 bitcoins after purchasing a Ledger wallet.

An unidentified investor lost 80 bitcoins worth $6.6 million after transferring the coins to a Ledger hardware wallet purchased from the Asian reseller CryptoBilis, according to analysts at the platform Lookonchain.
Analysts determined that four months ago, the investor had purchased 80 bitcoins for $5.2 million at an average price of approximately $65,000 per coin. By the time the funds went missing, the value of these assets had risen by roughly $1.38 million.
Lookonchain specialists found that on September 29, the investor transferred all the coins to a new address. Ten days later, on October 9, the bitcoins were withdrawn in a single transaction. The analysts did not disclose the identity of the wallet owner.
Lookonchain suggested that the hardware wallet purchased by the investor might have been compromised. The experts did not specify the exact cause of the bitcoin loss.
Previously, hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger launched an investigation into reports of potential cryptocurrency theft totaling $86 million from customers of the reseller CryptoBilis. The company did not confirm the extent of the losses but demanded a temporary halt to device sales, advising wallet owners to urgently transfer their bitcoins to new addresses and change their seed phrases.
